Re: Deconversion

I think you're setting up a false dichotomy here. To use what is yet
again a hoary old evangelical analogy, suppose that in ten years time
your child asks you to explain something complex, but you can't do it
- not because you don't understand it, or because you couldn't explain
it to your peers, but because your child is simply unable to
comprehend the explanation? Does that give your child a reason to
assume that nothing you say is trustworthy?

A reasonble argument.

We allow our children to be deceieved about the existence of Santa
Claus, partly in the hope that they may behave better if they are so
deceived.

Does that make us wicked?

Perhaps God is deceiving Christians about the existence of Heaven and
Hell, partly in the hope that humans may behave better if they are so
deceived.

Once you have a God who allows evils for inscrutable reasons, you have
got rid of any idea that we can trust a God who may be deceiving us ,
for reasons we know nothing of.

And, of course, the problem of evil is rather deep.

Why does God allow abortion? Clearly there is a very, very good reason
to allow abortion, but we are incapable of grasping it.

And why did God allow the Gospel writers to make mistakes when writing
about Jesus?

Why should we believe the Bible is inerrant, when God allows evil?
