The church in England (UK?) through the Reformation period

I was wondering ...

I was looking at the ABoCs site and was surprised to see ABoCs going back as
far as Augustine. In my naivety (my background is protestant, non-conformist
which has been in a state of severe flux over the last year!), I think I was
expecting to see something start around Henry VIII! (I was never very good
at history at school!) Given that the church (if it can be seen as a single
entity) was present in the UK prior to the Reformation, I'm trying to get an
understanding of what happened through this period. For example, I read
today that Pope Leo in the late 1800's suggested that the Anglican church
lacked Catholic orders. Amongst trying to get a better appreciation of this
period, I'm trying to discover arguments surrounding the
continuity/discontinuity of such orders, and I've assumed that the
Reformation period would have been the time of the break.

So can anyone point me to some decent books please or, if they are minded,
offer a short summary.

Thanks

Simon
