The 'scientific method' or empiricism is a particular method of
investigating celestial phenomena through applying lessons learned from
the behavior of objects on Earth and drawing conclusions.
The original 'scientific method' application was Newton's to Keplerian
motion known as the 'universal law of gravitation' where the behavior
of a planet in its motion around the Sun was similar to the behavior of
an object on Earth insofar as it slows down and stops when thrown in
the air and returns to the ground picking up speed as it does hence the
association to Keplerian motion -

Newton's working principles are unique in that they do not follow the
working principles of Kepler or Copernicus but are idiosyncratic and
unfortunately quasi-geocentric *.To make it easy for participants here
to understand, the conclusions which Copernicus drew in respect to the
orbital motion of the Earth around the Sun have a great deal in common
with the Ptolemaic astronomers than with Newton's unique take on the
motion of the planets.
* "For to the earth planetary motions appear sometimes direct,
sometimes stationary, nay, and sometimes retrograde. But from the sun
they are always seen direct," Isaac Newton

Newton appears to achieve his objective of applying terrestial
ballistics to planetary motions however he completely misjudges how the
Copernican and Ptolemaic astronomers had treated plotted retrogrades.I
do not expect participants to follow the trail of destruction wrought
by empiricism on the antecedent astronomical reasoning of Copernicus
and Kepler but it is extremely serious eventually leading to an
artificial conflict between the intutive ability to appreceate and
enjoy faith and the intutive ability to enjoy natural creation without
any conflict.
In other words,Christians who condone an artificial division between
'science' and 'religion' are neither scientists nor religious in the
true sense of these things.Natural investigation,as it was for
Copernicus in astronomy and Steno in geology,is always a facet of faith
and a gift at that.If taking the words of Christians to heart that we
should love the best then I am afraid that few,at present ,love the
reasoning of Copernicus -

[Unfortunately that excellent explanation contains the empirical
infection of associating retrogrades with looping motions insofar as
plotted retrogrades were common to Ptolemaic and Copernican
astronomers].
