Do you have figures for that? I did some googling for it yesterday,
and couldn't find anything which pointed to a reliable survey. I did,
however, find a document prepared for the NHS in the south-west of
England which quoted a lot of anecdotal evidence from various small,
non-controlled surveys, and the figures from them showed a post-op
suicide rate of up to 20% as well as a "regret" rate of up to 20%.
And, of those who initially approach the NHS for gender-reassignment
surgery, fewer than half actually proceed with the operation. The
report concludes that the benefits of surgery, though undoubtedly real
for some people have probably been overstated due to lack of rigorous
follow-up - a lot of post-op transsexuals are "lost" to the surveys
because they simply stop communicating with the survey team.
