It's still in ROM though there is a soft-load version (Still current and
in use by some) produced during it's more recent development, now
available as a full ROM version.
There were viruses and AV software though no new viruses have appeared
for several years.
As one well known guru in the Risc OS world said "I know all the RO
programers and if a virus appears, I'll know who's door to go banging on"
