This is probably your answer.

Update:
I have posted my concerns re Virgin Media filtering

that those with "alt.binaries....." in the title.
I have had a good response from VMs support staff,
and someone is looking into my list of missing posts.
I intend to give them time in case my posts finally appear
as I do not want to post them again, only to have them repeat.

Don't hold your breath....

And IIRC they never materialized. If an ISP won't support binaries outside
the "alt.binaries..." environment then there is naff all you can do about
it. They ain't going to change that for just a few people.
Your choices are...
1. Put up with reading (and possibly posting text) only
2. Get a better ISP
3. Dig deep into pockets and spend 5 sobs (yes, I know you've all got short
arms and long pockets...) on the smallest Astraweb package, which (if you
only use it for posting, and don't download any message bodies) will last
*forever*.
