Yahoo seems to have stopped sending me messages to the canals mailing
list (every so often it complains about a bounce and I reactivate it).
If I follow the last "reactivate" link it just takes me to sign-on and I
don't have an account
Have you ever had a Yahoo account, Nick, or had you just subscribed directly? I have had an account with Yahoo for around 8 years and, although I did seem to have to give rather a lot of information in order to sign up, I have never had any evidence that this has been misused in any way.
I have never had any problems with Yahoo apart from a couple of "bounces" that required re-activating. I subscribe to several other Yahoo groups and find them a useful service provider.
Have you tried unsubscribing with
canals-list-unsubscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
then re-subscribing with
canals-list-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ?
