Mornin' me dears......
This weekend my two younger bruvvers, a coupla mates plus the dawg,

before Ash lock is closed at t'end of month.
Sunday's display was better than Saturday's. The Red Arrows were, of
course, superb,,,, but the star of the show was definitely the Mig 29,
that was doing things in the air which nothing else could emulate, even
though they tried.... double back flips, flat falling leaf spins,
inverted tail slides, followed by an immediate climb..... inverted
bunts.... as well as all the things ordinary fighters can do... It was
fantastic to watch.... but all totally useless in a dog-fight, of
course.
It seemed that the pilot would put the plane into impossible
situations, then see what happened, and make the result part of his
routine..... or as one of my bros suggested.... 'Looks like they put a
total novice in the cockpit, and told him to take the plane up and
learn how to fly it, then bring it down again'..... I know what he
means, but in reality that Russian pilot must be one of THE top pilots.
The only other aircraft to come close was a glider. In free flight it
was a brilliant display of aerobatics, but seeing it continuously
rolling whilst behind an inverted tow plane was quick novel too.
Both days saw about a dozen boats moored along the canal at the end of
the runway. All wrere very well behaved except one idiot who spun his
short narrowboat around three times in Eelmoor Flash, next to a sign
saying 'Area of Special Scientific Interest... Boaters Keep Out'.
That is just the sort of behaviour that could get boats banned from the
canal by English Nature, who, of course, run things around here despite
what the Basingstoke Canal Authority think.
Water levels are still falling fast. We were bumping bottom quite a
lot. Movements through Ash lock are already restricted. From July 31st
the lock will be closed to navigation all together. The Canal Director
has warned that navigation along the entire length of the canal may
have to be banned if it gets much worse.
