I have a 1918 copy which has a reference to the European War in the
second para of the preface, and in the penultimate para it refers to
"....not been in the National interest to record all alterations made
during the period of the war" This seems to be a reference to WW1.

To make the answer pretty definitive, I can confirm that the 1928 edition has the "European War reference in para 2 of the preface, but not the "National interest" reference.

As you clearly don't have the 1904 edition, the only question left is: 1918 or 1928?

There are 11 adverts at the back (including a double page one for FMC) but no mention of the Anderton lift. One advert for Tough & Henderson, steam tug owners says that they were established over 60 years ago (in 1918). If one of your adverts is for the same company but has a different number of years this may help to date it.

1928 has 10pp ads including one for the Weaver Navigation with a photo of the Anderton Lift. So my bet is that you have a 1928 edition.

I have no idea of value but maybe a search on E-bay may help.

They don't often appear on eBay (although that is where I got mine), but abebooks.co.uk normally has a number of copies listed. "Value" is of course very dependent on condition. Prices on abebooks tend to be at the top end of what a dealer might expect to get with a following wind and a customer having a deep-rooted fear of haggling.

Hope this helps.
