Tr: Lakeland Week (second post arrempt)

Well ........ having being away for the week, I think everyone as moved
house ...... or ng!

Anyway, for anyone who may venture by, just had a fabulous week's walking on
the Lakeland Fells. Yes, walked for 6 days and only had a little drizzle on
two days.

Main reason for the visit was the Great Gable service on Sunday 8th. Cloudy
day, and even a little dusting of snow between the rocks on the top; a good
turnout too of walkers/climbers for the service. Couldn't hear the service
because of the wind, but did know when the 2 minutes silence started.
Dropped down to Styhead soon after 11am, then out via Seathwaite back to the
car.

Monday was a brilliant sunny day for our trip up Cat Bell's and across to
High Spy. Had lunch close to High Spy, enjoying the pleasant spring-like
conditions. Returned down the valley between Hindscarth and High Spy to the
car park near Skelgill.

Tuesday was a murky day for our trip up Helm Crag and along the ridge. Had
intended going on to Greenup Edge and to High Raise, but opted to get out of
the clouds down through Far Easdale. Had a pleasant lunch at Easdale Tarn
before returning to Grassmere down the side of Sourmilk Gill.

Wednesday we started out up Mousthwaite Comb, heading over Souther Fell to
Mungrisdale, again in sunny weather with cracking views all around. Passed
through Mungrisdale up to Bowscale Fell via raven Crag, then down Scales
Fell back to the car. Had a short spell in hill fog around Bowscale Fell,
but cleared once on the way down.

Thursday was overcast for our trip over Ullock Pike and on to Skiddaw.
Clear low level at first, but soon entered hill fog as we headed over
Longside Edge to Carlside Col. Followed the steep path onto the back of
Skiddaw, then left and straight over the top of Skiddaw. Thick mist and
very windy ....... but dry! Dropped down to Whitewater Dash for lunch, then
out back to the car, finishing off on the road in rain for the short road
walk. The first rain of the week.

Out alone of Friday, as Trevor and Clare wanted some shopping in Keswick. I
had not planned a walk, but seeing how bright it was to the north of Keswick
(and the last day), it was an opportunity not to be missed. So, parked at
Threlkeld and headed east for an ascent of Hall's Fell ridge to Blencathra.
Little rain started just before the rocky section, the beauty being that it
presented a fantastic double rainbow 'archway' over the ridge above me;
great sight. Lunch on top after a windy climb over wet rocks, then west
along the saddleback for a descent over Blease Fell. Short walk for the
last day, and back in Keswick with time for a little shopping myself.

Another fine week on the Lakeland Fells ..... looking forward to our New
Year week in Braithwaite next .... with New Year's Eve in the Coledale Inn.

A selection of photos from the 6 walks at the web address below ........ for
anyone who may pass by!
