He should have used map and compass - remember we are always being told that using a GPS means we are going to end up falling over the apocryphal cliff.

I find the Sat Nav less dangerous than trying to orientate a fully-opened 1:25,000 map to a magnetic compass and keep an eye on the road ahead at the same time.
