To expand..I use a Garmin with Mapsource and have Memorymap.
What I really really want is OS or similar maps loaded onto the
Garmin
so
that my exact location at any time when out and about can be shown.

When I said "this is not possible" I was referring to "OS or similar

After saying that someone mentioned to me Fugawi software...I'm
currently
trying to find out if that would download onto GPS. Any one have info on
this?

Fugawi is OS raster based along with MemoryMap and Anquet. The only OS
mapping that you can upload to a Garmin GPS is Gamin's own topo maps
which are in the required vector format.

Do you reckon the latest TOPO Great Britain would be any improvement on my
existing Mapsource software?

Depends on what your existing software is. If you have v.1 Topo, then v.2
will mean that you wont be as confused by new roundabouts and bypasses
etc. when using it in-car as a satnav. However, v.2 does not have the new
road layout in central Bradford.

If you have not got any Topo then it is worthwhile getting it. Although
ordinary Mapsource plus the SMC contours is a nice cheap alternative -
that is what I use when hill walking in Ireland and it is good enough.

There is a cracked version of Topo v.2 floating around.

No its mapsource v 6:14:1..as I say I can't fathom if TOPO GB V2 will be
much better that what I have.
