Well, seeing as I had to visit that great outdoor boot shop Peglers at Arundel today, thought it would be silly not to take advantage of a walk on the South Downs east of Amberley. Great area to walk. So, as Clare headed west to work, I headed east to Amberley ................. great this retirement!
Arrived at High Titten 7:20, and on my way east along the South Downs Way by 7:30. Only problem was rather foggy, so not a lot to see. I had intended heading east to Chantry Post before circuiting southwards, but decided to reverse my intended route and head south to The Burgh first. Good idea as I soon was out of the fog and in plenty of sunshine, but still plenty of fog along the Downs though to the north. Had my first coffee stop at Wepham Down, then passed around Harrow Hill and through Myrtlegrove Farm, to reach the western side of Blackpatch Hill. Had a second coffee stop below Blackpatch Hill, enjoying the warm of the sun and the cheerful sound of the birds while having a little snack. After the break, I continued north to join the South Downs Way at Chantry Post, then headed west over Rackham Hill and back to the car.
Great outing, finishing off in Arundel buying a pair of of La Sportiva Nepal Extreme (Ex hire pair) from Peglers, followed by fish and ships for lunch ........ what a way to end a walk!
