The message <dc88a7b5-d681-466a-a0b9-3443d502a266@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
from JimL <jmlawton@xxxxxxxxx> contains these words:
I used to walk a lot up there - Kinder, Bleaklow, and Blackhill, in
the days before GPS, mobiles or even CB radio. I often used to walk on
my own, and in pretty filthy winter weather. I had all the right gear,
but was I wise to do it? Someone always knew I was up there, and when
I was coming back, but even so, I'd not do it nowadays. Crawling off
with a broken leg doesn't appeal - Joe Simpson not withstanding.
It's a risk some choose to take and some don't. Walking alone has
advantages as well as disadvantages but you can't have it all. You
chose, you lose (something).
These kids probably shouldn't have been up there, but I think that if
you do manage to become disorientated in that area, and especially if
you are a novice, it can be a very intimidating place - and seemingly
endless too.
These weren't kids even though they acted as if they were. They are
young adults and need to be treated as such.

Nearest Marilyn still to be visited - Great Orme.
89 miles as the crow flies,
considerably more as the walker drives.
