I'm neither a wild eyed believer nor a dimissive skeptic but I'll be
damned if I let anyone else tell me what conclusions I should draw or
that I should cease all investigation of what may be, if validated, an
enormously important medical modality.

That last part, about the potential enormity of the methodology,
might
be a bit of a stretch. Even amongst the commercial pharma industry
these days, "miracle cures" are pretty rare as of late. My father
worked in the industry for virtually his entire career. Towards the
end he observed that true leaps were becoming less common.
The company for which he worked sank a boat load of future into
a particular class of compounds. It showed great promise right
up until human trials began in earnest. For all the potential shown,
the downsides turned out to be extrordinary, and the benefits
elusive.

The excitement these days for genetic research, especially
those around various forms of "stem cells" occasionally strikes
me as a bit premature and containing a touch more desperation
than anticipation. The drug industry took off basically with the
advent of antibiotics. It expanded well beyond that, but these days
is stuck roughly back where it started, predominately selling
"treatments" that cure virtually nothing and must be taken
continuously. We've ultimately reached the point where they
are back to selling basically hair tonics and male "potency"
drugs.

Homeopathy has been around a long time. If ultimately
some phenomenon is found upon which they may be able to
latch their beliefs, the fact that until now there has been precious
little to detect to begin with suggests that any effect found will
be predominately mild.

Comments on the current "limbo" of pharmacological accomplishments,
agreed.

On the mild effects of Homeopathy, I'm unsure until I know more. If a
definitive mechanism can be found and proven, it could have ENORMOUS
implications both for Homeopathy and for standard medicine and
pharmacology.
