Glenlyon - Proposed Hydro Scheme at Infamous Gate

North Chesthill estate plans to develop a run of river hydro scheme on
the Invervar Burn in Glenlyon. The proposed situation of the power
house is the Smithy next to the infamous gate. The local community at
Invervar are opposing this scheme. If you have objections then see the
community web site of the Invervar Community Association, http://www.invervar.org.
The developer also plans to use the car park commonly used by walkers
as the construction site and to lay the pipeline up the track to the
Munros.

The submission by the estate suggest that not much access is taken
from Glenlyon, some quotes from the developer's Environmental
Statement below.

"The track up the valley is not a public right of way but is used by
walkers."

"Several 'Munros' to both north and south collectively command the
attention of large numbers of walkers, though for reasons of
convenience, access to most of these is generally from directions
other than from Glen Lyon."

"This is not a location which adds significantly to the region's
recreational potential. Implementation of SNH's 'Outdoor Access Code',
which is identifying new public access rights and associated
responsibilities in Scotland, in not expected to find significant
opportunity here."

"Whereas Schiehallion and its associated 'Munro' peaks attract large
numbers of walkers, these mainly concentrate on areas to the east and
north of the valley of the Invervar Burn and have little cause to make
use of its track to reach high ground (Map 2)"

"Most walkers aiming for Schiehallion reach the main parking area on
the east side of the peak at Braes o'Foss from the B846 north of
Glengoulandie, and those bound for most of the other local Munros do
so from a widely distributed number of access points in and beyond
Glen Lyon."

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland have objected to the scheme.
The canoe assoociation are expected to object. The local community are
objecting. If you want to make an objection then our community web
site has a form and any onther information you might need.
