Exactly!!!!!
Did I just shoot myself in the foot there?
Since digital creates
colour from multiple sensors with different coloured filters over
them (red, green, blue), a monochrome image made purely from one
colour sensor (e.g. red, for a red filter effect) is actually using
less pixels, hence has lower resolution.
this is all pre digital, making monochromes from a digital is an area
that needs exploration for validity. Shot in the dark. Phot of black
babe against black background shot on quality B&W film wont be matched
by digital?
Probably not. Apparently a number of people are making monochrome images
from digital colour these days, and maybe some of them aren't aware of the
digital issues involved.
I think that monochrome digital photography could be extremely valid, but it
would be best achieved by a dedicated monochrome camera, with no colour
filters over the sensors. In fact, some early digital cameras had
"monochrome" sensors, and required three separate exposures with R, G and B
filters, to be combined to create a single colour image. It wouldn't take
much alteration of that basic concept to produce a dedicated monochrome
camera with internal colour filters (Y/O/R/G and maybe more) to produce
excellent digital monochrome images.
