But is that necessarily blogging's fault? I don't post here as much as I
used to, but that's not because of blogging. My interest has been waning for
a long time. The main reason is probably that the novelty has long since
worn off. The same questions are asked by newbies time and time again, and I
just don't have the same enthusiasm for it anymore. Times change, and people
change with them.

With blogs and forums and
newsgroups choices do have to be made as to where to spend time.

True, but that's true of everything. I may decide to spend less time posting
on newsgroups because I want to devote more time to music. But I really
don't see blogging as an alternative to newsgroups and forums, any more than
designing a website is. Blogs have a different purpose.

is noticeable that newsgroups have become quieter in the last few
years.

Yes. I don't think it's all due to people drifting away from newsgroups, but
rather that newbies are more attracted to newer types of social networking.
Usenet is old fashioned and boring for modern youngsters.

I must admit I actually like newsgroups because they are
unmoderated and debates can get fierce and sometimes totally over the
top.

Perhaps, but that can get very tedious too.
