I was on Steel Knotts and experienced the same. They clustered round the
rocks which are the highest point.
I was thinking about what was going on. I presume they fly to mate with
other colonies to improve stock. Therefore they all need to fly at the same
time and they all need to meet. Do they head for the highest ground? I
recall they always do it at this time of year and in hot sunny weather. I
presume this triggers the mechanism?
Has this ever been researched, i wonder?
