I only wear one pair. I went on a 4000-mile backpack with my wife a
couple of years back and we tested out different brands on holidays
beforehand. We found that Smartwool socks were very comfy and easily
outlasted the other brands (including bridgedale, and thor-lo which we
didn't like).

As a general rule, good quality wool socks are more comfy and outlast
synthetic ones.
