Re: Peak District short walk for beginners

The message <ed63hd$h4h$1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
from Sean <sean@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> contains these words:

Well, to be honest we aint actually got many hills that really stand out
as hills. Although its the Peak district it does not proliferate with
them.

The Peak isn't so named because it has peaks in it, as Chris says, it
doesn't have much in the way of actual peaks. Its (probably) named after
the Pecsaetan - an anglo saxon tribe that took up residence in the 6th
century.

Tell that to the school atlas publishers of 50 years ago who had a
summit marked as "The Peak" just where Kinder Scout should be. Funnily
enough it had the same height as Kinder Scout as well. ISTR that I saw a
recent atlas in the not to distant past with the same mistake.
