GPS recommendation please

I plan my walks with a map, a nice circular one with a Pub half way, unless it's closed ;-( . I used to be a sailing man and got a big kick from crossing a stretch of water and arriving (well nearly) where I planned, so am familiar and happy with maps, charts and compasses. Though I can easily see the danger of relying on a GPS totally, I rather like the idea of a one, especially if it shows me, on reaching home, where I went wrong. Which make and model would the panel recommend please? TIA
.
