Fabulous pictures!
I did just the same traverse you did, with my club on 29 May. We started
off in cool, April sun, and went into cloud, as we huddled round the
cairn on Sail Liath, whence half the party retreated back the way we had
come.
Teresa, Christoph, Nat, Colin and I carried on, making a half hearted
try at the first pinnacle, then following one of the evasion paths,
which petered out - I rather think that one of your photos shows the
spot. A retreat led us to a lower path which we followed through the
snow, which was deep enough to hide it in places! We stopped for a
breather, with zero visibility, just below the crest, at a spot which I
think just might have been the back of Lord Berkley's Seat (any one know
who the noble Lord was?), where Christoph and I, just discerning,
something looming above us in the murk turned back and scrambled up two
successive steep, but easy pinnacles, with a trap-door into oblivion,
under a chock-stone between them. Garmin & the 1:50k OS map certainly
won't say with any certainly where the hell we went!
We then turned back and found the other three very soon huddled under
Sgurr Fiona, where we had a brief glass of wine (photo intended to be
taken on LBS in brilliant sun for entry into "Extreme Wine Tasting"
competition!) and then headed down & up. From Bidean a'Ghlas Thuill we
had no visibility whatever onto Glas Meall Liath, and had to use map &
compass. pretty well until we reached that top, when we lost the cloud
and could see the rest of the world. Why the new SMC North-West
Highlands Guide advises against this descent, I dunno.
An interesting day!
Richard
