Without wanting to go into a lot of detail - because it is a tad
embarrassing to admit what happened - I recently spent a couple of nights
in my ProAction tent in similar snowy conditions. However, I fell head
first into a four foot deep stream one of the evenings after dark - as my
hood filled with water and threatened to pull me further in I had to then
get in the stream upright and hence also soaked the lower half of my body.
I was roughly half an hour away from the tent - and as I walked/squelched
home it started to snow again. Once I was back I had no alternative but to
remove my wet clothing and get in the sleeping bag still wet - I know I
should have taken a towel and/or spare clothing, but I didn't have
anything dry except spare socks and gloves.

I thought you were an experienced hillman. Next time I do something silly
I'll think of you : "If Martin can do this why can't I ?" :-)

To become experienced one needs to have experiences.

And, anyway, I am lying - I did also have a mid layer fleece - but forgot about it as it was in my rucksack. I found it there - snug and dry - almost 24 hours later!

Tell you what - what helped was that I have taken up kayaking within the last year - and I am getting quite used to being submerged in cold rivers.
