Know where midges go in the winter?

My back garden!! (just in case anyone wondered hehehe)
Tens of thousands of them in my back garden today. I didn't know what to do
about them. I figured i'd be able to potentially kill millions of them by
destroying the convoy in the garden but, i had absolutely no idea how to go
about it and instead, my neice and i just watched them from the window in a
trance like state for around half an hour.
Ive lurked on here for long enough and thought i'd give posting a go at last
:-)
