Hi folks,
Off to the lakes for the first time soon and hoping to get up Scafell pike.
Fairly new to hill-walking/rambling but i'm a reasonably fit 32yr old who is used to walking etc.
What i want to know is, what are the practicalities of getting up scafell pike? Most of the walking books i have offer all kinds of warnings that it should only be attempted by experienced walkers with navigational expertise etc. Yet some websites talk about it as if it is just a long steep walk.
What would be the best approach for a novice or am i just kidding myself about getting up.
Also, how does one go about being an 'experienced walker' capable of getting up something like Scafell pike?
I guess these are all pretty much 'how long is a piece of string' questions but i am open to anything useful.
Thanks very much.
John.
