Help I bought my JVC MG21 thinking it recorded and saved files as
Mpeg4,
enabling me to down load directly to my PC - Windows Move Maker - but
all footage appear to have been save to the camcorder as .MOD files ?
In the mannual it tells me this is a default setting as the recorded
file could not be saved properly and therefore been save as a MOD
file.
Can anybody help me out and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

A search for .MOD extension show's this.
JVC stores the video in files with a .MOD extension which are standard
MPEG-2 VOB files with Dolby Digital sound. Third-party editing
applications
should be able to edit them. .....
So copy to you HDD and change the Mod to .mpeg. But windows movie
maker
does not save as Mpeg so your going to have to fiddle a bit If you want
to
make a DVD to play on a stand alone DVD player.
Thanks Trev - I'll try that -can you change the files to mpeg on your
recorder or would that need to be done on the pc.
Would you recommend the software that comes with the camcorder rather
than windows movie maker.
Thanks for your help - I'm a complete novice.
DVD's are made from mpeg 2 files but on a DVD disc there vob .
I dont know what the software is like that comes with your camera so I cant
say but most will save as mpeg or mpeg2 but the codec for mpeg2 is not given
away free which is why MS movie maker does WMV or AVI.
If your software says it can make DVD's then it includes the codec for MPEG
2
.
