OK - firstly, I am using Premiere and secondly both internal and external HD
space and have about 300 gig but would expand this - my main concern was
that if I captured large chunks at a time the PC would not be able to open
the files. Camera is an Canon XL2 and since this is a no-budget production I
have to limit hire time

Normally when I edit, I carefully assemble selected shots from DVmaster
onto my HD. This time using hired eqpmnt,I've got very limited timeleft on
which to select shots from DV master to my PC. Any suggestions asto how
much I footage I can capture at once without creating files thatare too
large for my PC to open (so that I can return and edit shotsindividually) -
or any other suggestions to get round time factor. Ive got about 6hours
footage and only a couple of days hire remaining.
Well how the hell do you expect us to answer this if you don't tell
us how much HDD space have you got?! Given enough space there is no
reason why you can't 'capture' all 6 hrs. Also it might help to tell
us what editing software you are using.
ISTM that your working practise might be a problem here, are you
planning your capture in / out points before your hire the equipment
or after?
