Not with a CD recorder alone, no. CDs and DVDs have different density
of data onthe disk. As a result, differently 'coloured' lasers are
used as well as much higher track density on DVDs.
As a result, there's no possible way to burn a DVD on a CD writer
alone, it also has to have the laser with a wavelength suited for DVD
dyes.
