Firewire card problem

Hi all,
I am struggling with my IEEE firewire connection for quite some time
now. I have sony DCR HC18 MiniDV camcorder and my PC has Windows XP.
The problem is that the when I use the IEEE card to transfer video, the
camcorder is not recognised, and I get a message something like "Either
no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device is
connected". I have tried VideoStudio, Sony PicturePackage, Windows
MovieMaker, but no success. When I tried the USB connection instead, it
works without any problems in all the softwares mentioned above.

(A) I tried removing the IEEE card and reinstalling it by: Uninstall
it, remove card, start windows without card, shut down, insert card,
and restart PC. (In the Uninstall step, I uninstall the card by using
this procedure (WindowsXP): System Properties > Hardware > Device
Manager. Here, an entry is available which is "1394 Bus Controller",
and under this entry, there is an subentry: "PCI OHCI compliant IEEE
1394 Host Controller". I right click this, and choose Uninstall).
When I restart windows after inserting the card again, Windows gives a
pop-up message "New Network device installed: windows has detected a
new device...." etc. Though it doesn't ask me to load a driver or
search for it. After this, everytime I connect the camcorder using
IEEE, I hear a XP ding sound, but when I start the software (such as
Video Studio), I get the above error message ("Either no video capture
driver ....") or equivalent messages in other softwares. I tried to
look for some option in the camcorder itself to switch mode from USB to
IEEE or Firewire, but don't think such an option is available.

(B) The only installation CD that came with the camcorder is the Sony
PicturPackage Application Software and which also contains USB driver
as mentioned on the top of the CD. When I connected the camcorder to PC
using USB, Windows asked me to insert the driver CD, I inserted this CD
and the driver was successfully installed, and the USB connection works
OK. (After connecting camcorder using USB, I get a popup message that
"a new divice is connected, do you want to use it" etc).

(C) Surprisingly, when I tried Windows 98 instead of Windows XP (which
is installed on the same PC on a hard disk partition), it detected the
IEEE card and installed driver for it by itself. When I connect
camcorder here using IEEE, and launch Videostudio, the default options
which are selected and appear in Videostudio are "Format:DV" and
"Driver:SONY-MSDV", and I can transfer the video to PC using IEEE.

My queries are:
(1) Is the entry "PCI OHCI compliant IEEE....." mentioned in (A) above
appearing in Device Manager is the correct entry for the firewire card:
i.e. does the appearance of this entry indicates that the card has been
installed properly?
(2) How can I find the driver for this if the problem is due to the
missing driver, i.e. the source of the driver.
(3) Can this driver be copied from the Windows98 location where it is
working properly (I want to work in WindowsXP Movie Maker, so
interested in thing working in XP). If yes, how to locate the driver in
Win98 and where to copy it in XP?
(4)In Win 98 also, the entry "PCI OHCI compliant IEEE....." mentioned
in (1) above exists. Under Network Adapters options in DeviceManager,
WinXP has an entry 1394 Net Adapter, whereas Win98 has an entry
Microsoft TV/Video Connection. What are these two entries? Are they
related to Firewire?
(5)How do I know the name of the IEEE firewire card I have? The box in
which it came says "PCI: computer pci card". There was no installation
manual or CD with it. (In case I need to search for a driver for this
card).
(6) Why windows XP is not able to use IEEE card.

Thankyou for your patience in reading this long post. Any help would be
appreciated.
