Can we clear something up first, are you saying that the 'clip' on
the timeline is 42GB and is the complete wedding?
I would start by cutting the clip on the time line into smaller
chunks, this will not mean that you cut the captured file into
smaller multiple files, it will let you (say) work on the reception
footage without effecting the service footage IYSWIM. I would also
look through the footage (on the time line) to see if there are any
shoots that can be used as brief 'cut away' shots [1] and if so COPY
them as a new clip then they can be used to mask any 'alterations'
you need to make.
No one ever said that editing was easy, those who do either produce
crap or are lying! :~)
[1] shots of the Paige-boy, brides-maids, service officials,
relations etc. - these shots only need to be a few seconds long.
