@r30g2000prh.googlegroups.com:

I have wanted to join Sub Brit but have been put off due to being told
there is an inner circle who share info between themselves and say
they can't tell you anything because it's not in the public domain, I
say how can this be when some of them are not supposed to be aware of
the info been told by a friend?

For goodness sake!

Why not pay the miserly sum of £15 for a full one year membership and
find out for yourself what a superb organisation Sub Brit is.

There is NOT an "inner circle" that I have ever seen and I have been a
member for 10 years.

There are, as is usual, a small number of stalwarts who do 90% of the
work while the rest of us sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labour
so you will see a small number of names coming up time and time again.
This small band of people go to extreme lengths to organise probably the
best web site of its type in the world; two one-day conferences a year
(with a fascinating range of subjects and speakers); a Journal that is of
professional standard; visits to sites of interest and a closed newsgroup
that regularly has fascinating nuggets of information in.. All this for
£15 a year - tell me of ANY other organisation that offers such good
value for money

A number of the visits reported on the web site and in the Journal are
organised privately by members - these take a lot of organising and are
usually restricted in the number of people who may attend. They are not
official Sub Brit visits. People who organise these visits can, of
course, invite along anyone they wish but very often the visit is
advertised openly to members - the best way to get on an invite list is
to be an active, helpful member who organises their own visits! Those
of use who cannot, through disability or whatever, attend these visits
are eternally grateful for the full, illustrated and well-written reports
that are always produced.
You will not see many reports regarding active military installations -
these can only be visited and reported upon in very exceptional
circumstances - but when this IS possible then a full report is made
available to members. Sub Brit is sufficiently well respected by the
authorities to be given access to places and information not normally
available.

If subterranea is your interest, join Sub Brit and help organise visits,
talks, meetings etc. There is an incredible wealth of experience in the
Society who will most definitely give you all the assistance and guidance
you could possibly require. Or just do what, regrettably, a too large a
number of us do - sit back and soak up and revel in the fantastic wealth
of information provided by the Society's stalwarts.

Terry Wiseman
(Who, you might have guessed, is a grateful member of Sub Brit and
happily pays his miserly subscription of £15 pa.)
