Well, as I said last time, the pond is now totally encircled with two electric sheep nets and twin electric wires to complete the circle. 3,700volts going through the fence so any varmints should enjoy that!
This morning, there were 15 teal and half a dozen diving ducks on the pond! First for a couple of weeks. Of course, it might be a coincidence, but I'd like to think duck have been dropping in, only to be scared off by the otters.
Anyway, I have released a couple of my home reared mallard ducks onto the pond as an added incentive. They can't fly yet so hopefully will act as decoys and if they disappear I shall know something has got past the fence.
Thanks again for all the advice.

As one has to! I don't want to depress you, but a friend with a captive waterfowl collection - the birds were pinioned and so couldn't fly, a bit like your mallard (!) - tried various anti-otter ploys and ended up with a six-foot fence, dug into the ground at the bottom, with a foot overhang outwards at the top and with three strands of electric fencing, one near the ground, one halfway up and one under the overhang. Only then were the otters kept out!!
As a bonus, this would keep foxes out, too :-)
