The wonders of the Private Sector

Just submitted my online electricity meeting, which runs to 340U daytime, and 39U overnight tarrif.
So it was rather worrying to read this message on the confirmation screen:
"Total usage costs since your last bill £22,049.74"
Now, for 86 days electric for a one bedroom flat with a gas fire and gas cooker, that is pretty good going.
It worries me somewhat that I have, through signing a direct debit mandate, effectively given these shpxjvgf access to my current account. Have sent them a little message via their contact page saying that, AFAIAC, if they Do attempt to charge me that much, then they have accepted liability for my subsequent losses and expenses in sorting out the mess.
Time to Switch with Which?, I think.
