If you hear a bang.....

Some time ago I (for reasons unaccounted) tried to cook an egg in a
microwave. A whole intact egg.

BTDT. When we were moving house. Wife wanted egg sandwiches for lunch and
everything was packed. So we tried to microwave an egg. I knew they went
bang, so we put it in a coffee cup full of water, so the water would provide
a "load" for the microwaves and the egg wouldn't blow up.

It didn't work.

I tried it because I wanted to see how big a bang it would make, I put
it in a Tupperware box to contain the mess. That didn't work either, it
still blew the door open and popped one of the internal fuses out of
it's holder.

The microwave was fine though, once I'd put the fuse back in and cleaned
up the mess.

If we have a correct theory but merely prate about it, pigeonhole it and
do not put it into practice, then that theory, however good, is on no
significance. - Mao Zedong

Having successfully poached eggs in mugs of water in the microwave
several times, yesterday had a banger. No reason why that I could see.
Nothing done differently, but ended up with tiny bits of egg white all
over the inside of the microwave, although what remained in the mug
was palatable.

So I thought I'd try poaching one in the halogen oven today. Boiled
the water in the kettle first. Put a shallow dish in the over. Poured
the water into the dish. Broke an egg into it. Switched on at 200
degrees for 10 minutes. Lots of swirling and bright light flashing.
Ended up with thin egg soup.

I might try microwaving scrambled egg for my Christmas morning
breakfast.
