A lot of people really haven't got the idea of "science", have they ?
And a lot of people really haven't got the idea of Christianity, have
they? The only people they listen to are the literalists so they can
make us all sound stupid. I've never found science and God
incompatible.
ISTM that the relationship between a) believing in something and b) trying
to jbex out what's what, regardless of what you happen to believe, is an odd
one. Works best when they don't meet very often, maybe.

It's not, really.
I believe in various scientific theories despite never having doen the
experiments myself, or even having seen them done. I just trust the peer
review system (with certain caveats...)
Religion's much the same: the mystics do the experiments, the laity work
with their results. The peer review system is slightly flakier, but it
is there.

I never liked the word peer. People who call each other peers seem to
look down on those they don't call peers. It is more important to them
that they agree with each other than get it right, to such an extent
that their word for right is indistinguishable in usage from "agrees
with me". All it has given us is the phrase "Rkcregf nterr ..." in the
overall rattling of the stick in the swill bucket of life. As far as I
can tell, science is about what jbexes, and religion isn't, which is why
a bit of good ol' blasphemy may well be appropriate when something that
should jbex doesn't.

Religion works. It just can't be measured scientifically. Well, at
least mine works for me, without impinging on science in the least.

It's a bit like Descartes deciding to do politics, so the first thing
he does is he becomes a member of every party.

How sad he missed out on the 'Born a Liberal, die a Liberal, drunk in
between'.
