That's worse. If you flush with the lid down the plume of germs
spreads out a lot further (allegedly) than with the lid up.
I'll bet that varies so much with the design of that particular lid-pan
combination that it's utterly useless as advice goes.
Well it was in a textbook written about 1895 or so by a neminent
sanitary engineer.
'course, in those days you had the cistern (Iron, with weight-into-a-well to
start the siphon, and clank-ker-bong WHOOSH noise) up hihg on the wall, so
that the water, when it arrived in the pan, was moving at a rate of knots.
