Potted history: scraped both legs badly when part falling out mum's loft and, not too fine a point on it, they got infected and you could safely say they are now described as leg ulcers. Not been sore at any point.
Previous regim was Mepitel, padding then lint and crepe to hold all of it together. Consultant more than happy with, then, current results 2 fortnights ago and see in 6 fortnights.
Slight pseudomonas infection. No antibiotics but Le Quack, for be it a he, decided last week to change to me standing in two buckets[1] with Potassium Permanganate tablets (Permitabs) dissolved in them for 20 minutes then applying AquaCel AG directly.
Wednesday minor irritation, Friday a bit sore, today absolutely bouncing and unable to qb any jbex due to the wincing.
Le Quack unsympathetic. Meeting arranged with Consultant Friday. Would any medisheddie care to comment in the interim.
Pseudomonas is very difficult to treat with oral antibiotics, some of the arjer cefalosporins or possibly quinolones might have some activity against it, but that is a long way from saying they will get rid of it. On the other hand, it hangs around but seldom, in fit people, causes major probllems, just delays healing. Sounds much more like a different kind of infection. Is there any redness spreading outwards from the edges? ALternatively, is it very itchy? If so, it might mean you've developed an allergy to something.
I must say, potassium permanganate may be horribly messy, but is usually as close to oDemtsso as you can reasonably put on the human skin.
In what way was the quack unsympathetic? Not wanting to look at it, or looking and saying there was nothing significantly wrong?
You could always phone back and say you think you've got necrotizing fasciitis, but he'd probably write you off completely as a smartarse.
