I wondered that. And then you haveter molish yer coffee. How much time
can the PC take to get up to speed?
My arj one has a button called 'suspend', which makes it stop making the
fan-noise in about the time it takes me to get up off the chair, and then
has it come back asking for a password in less time than it takes to start
the coffee-chamine; and unforgets what I was doing. I guess it's still
throwing power at the RAM, there's a light on the front that keeps flashing.
I've not checked what happens to power consumption if you put it on standby
or hibernate. I dislike standby, generally, and while hibernate is clever
it doesn't always jbex.
Yes, mine also has a 'hibernate', which gives the impression of being a
deeper-partial-closedown, but doesn't always come back up properly.
Likewise, I haven't really investigated too far yet.
in windoze, AFAIK, hibernate takes a snapshot of the ram and saves it to
disk, then shuts down more or less. When you unhibernate, it replaces the
snapshot in the ram. Of course, if it actually snapshots ALL the ram, that
means (on this machine) reading a 2GB file from the disk, which probably
takes as long as booting it conventionally.
