His objection wasn't so much to eating meat, but to the whole concept of using animals for our benefit. He was even a bit sniffy about Jim (the horse) being used to pull Jim (the boat), from what I remember.
So, if he'd had a sudden dose of charisma and managed to convert, say,
the whole of the UK to his ideas, what did he imagine would have become
of all the animals we no longer wanted/needed?
Did he think that farmers would continue to feed expensive feed to pigs,Natural wastage. Just don't breed them, & there'll be no problem in a few years.
cattle etc., or did he imagine that they would be turned loose to fend
for themselves in fields now needed for intensive agriculture to support
the vegan population?
How would I feed my kitties, if there was no meat available? Cats
*have* to have meat.
He didn't live with cats, he lived with a dog, & dogs can survive on TVP. If I answered, it'd be surmise, & I lost contact a couple of decades ago, so I can't ask him.
As he admitted, he *was* on the extreme fringe.....
He wasn't wanting it to happen *now, right this minute* though, but during his lifetime as a gradual process, I think.
