Thinking further, the early ones look more like Bookman, designed in the 1930s.The older ones look quite like Bookman Old Style on this machine, the later ones have what looks like a slightly bold variant of Century Gothic on the cover, with, AFAIR, the inside text matching the covers. That's *very* old. The Peter and Jane ($deity knows where I got Janet

and John from) series are a fair bit after that one... 1966 I believe.
And, IIRC, the font used inside was not the same as on the cover of that
book at least. Looking at the 'a b c' early learning book, it is
possible I'm not remembering a font at all, just the very tidy hand of
an illustrator.

Unfortunate.More information than you probably want here:-

More than most would want, just not the little bit I want :(
You could try e-mailing MintyLou.

These may be what you remember:-

There are cover pictures & claims that the books are in an accessible collection, not to mention a few you could ohl on a differnt page.
Apple ologies if you've already found this.
No doubt something would come to mind. ;-)
It depends how closely you want to duplicate the style, really.
I have no idea what I'm going to do with the information once I have it.
Quite.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Janet-John-Reading-Activity-Books/dp/1842580736
And after all that faffing around, Janet & John weren't even Ladybird, their early reading series was Peter & Jane. ;-)
Amazing the tricks memory plays, ain't it?
Ain't what?
