Re: My Birthday

On or around Sat, 29 Mar 2008 19:41:33 +0000, Melanie Rimmer
<mel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> enlightened us thusly:

The kids woke me up at 7am with breakfast in bed and a pile of presents
and cards. I got:

* A Nikon D40 digital SLR camera from my dad with a normal sort of lens
(sorry, I dn't speak fluent photographese yet), a telephoto lens, a few
filters, a carrying case with ever so many compartments (I should get
one of these just to use as a handbag) and a book that tells me how to
drive it

'scuse me while I go a light green envious colour for a moment.

Mind, I've picked up a strange Russian spotting scope for 30 quid, including
a quite-decent tripod, which we agreed that the folks'd pay for for me
burpday.

fettling it yesterday, molished a better mount adaptor and made a rather
crude but hopefully effective cover for the front end of the prismatic
eyepiece bit which was missing. 30x or 60x mag. Seems to have just one
~80mm object lens, then the rectifying eyepiece, with switchable mag.

The mount is part of it and fits a 3/4"x about 2" stub, on which it can
swivel, and a horizontal pivot for elevation on top of that. Hopefully
it'll cuminhandi for harchery.
