Hmm, maybe my physics was hazy, the partial pressure may be same, but
when the total pressure is lower that will shift the equilibrium, so
perhaps you should flush the bockle with a ninert gas instead?
No, you were right the first time. The thing about boiling is
when the partial pressure of a given component reaches the total pressure
then all of that component wants to turn into a gas; hence boiling, and
why you can concentrate alcohol by boiling it out of an aqueous solution
(a.k.a. distillation). So long as the total pressure is above the
partial pressure, equilibrium is reached at the PP for the given liquid
temperature.
