Flaptop DVD drives.

Oh sheddi fount of all knowledge,
I have an ASUS M5200N flaptop with a Panasonic UJDA-765 DVD-ROM/CD-RW in it which looks something like this:

Except that mine appears to have a custom front panel with the bottom right hand corner cut off to fit the styling of the flaptop.
As far as I can see, apart from the aforementioned front panel, it's a standard flaptop drive and any other standard flaptop drive should fit with a small amount of hacking to the front panel of the drive or the laptop case or both. Is this likely to be the case and could I fit something like this instead?:
