Alcoholism has nothing to do with when you drink, who you drink with,
what you drink, or even (sometimes) how much you drink. Alcoholism is
not being able to stop drinking once you start.

It is incurable.

Not true. Recovery happens and gets better and better for the rest of
ones life. Guaranteed.
(Keep it simple - one rule - don't drink.)

That's not a "cure", that's avoidance.

I said "keep it simple", and look what you do ....
Ruth's peanut allergy is also
incurable- the strategy for managing it is: "Don't eat peanuts".

Peanut allergy is not a disease of the soul, alcoholism is.

No, it's not- it's a disease of the brain. The last thing recovering
alcoholics need is for people to assume that their condition is caused by
moral deficiency or "weakness". It's a disease. The treatment for the
disease is to remove the stimulus.

I think we do agree pretty much that removal of the cause is a Good
Thing - there is then potential for the individual to develop for the
best, in their own way, if they perceive such a thing.

There is still the difference though, in that removal of other allergens
does not necessarily enable hope for the Future in the way that sobriety
can, and so often does.
