I may need to ask you for help. I'm about to take posession of a pre-loved
iMac, I'm not sure which OS version it has. I suspect 8.

I like OS9 best but everyone else who uses a mac likes OSX. If you can
upgrade to OSX then that's the best thing you can do it seems. Mind you, if
all you want it for is word processing, image editing and stand alone stuff
then OS9 would be fine. If you run OS9 I might be able to help with some
things but the whole point of a mac is that it's foolproof and plug and play
so you shouldn't really need any help [hollow laughter].

My main problem with my mac on os9 is a general reduction in updates for
peripheral/support software already running: drivers, browsers, fonts,
conversion software, extensions, control panels... It's like watching an old
friend declining with memory loss and reduced motor skills.

My main problem with my mac on osX is a general lack of expertise in
operating the updated/superseded software: Indesign, Dreamweaver,
Illustrator. Which is like being in the same room as a precocious teen.
