Hey Podner, are you the One they know of as Desperate Don?

Yes, it is I. Desperate Don. The Law East of the Guadaloopy.
Possessor of a mind which uncontrollably jumps to the metalevel.
Borderline nutso. Fascinated by pecans. Barely holding it all
together. Desirous of attention. Likes to watch cats cough up
hairballs.
How disappointing, no review of the cow pie.

I take that as meaning a review of Hofstadter's "I am a Strange Loop".
Yes. Very good read. Tackles age-old questions such as "what is
consciousness?" Now, what I came away from it with is the notion that
a single brain is inadequate to solve such mysteries. It would take
the concerted effort of all humanity, organized into some sort of
metabrain structure. An analogy would be (Dr. H. tells us to use
analogies a lot) that a single mind can grasp the intricacies of a
single cell, therefor it would take some sort of Global Brain to
understand a single human brain.
Other than that, it has a lot of other good stuff in it too.
