I spent some time training people who had never seen a computer
close-up. They seemed to understand the desktop metaphor reasonably
well.
I wish they'd taken the metaphor a level further, to be honest. You
could have folders inside filing cabinets. I suppose you could do
that yourself, with appropriate icon changes....
You could but that metaphor breaks down when you go one step further.
You find folders within a filing cabinet but rarely folders within
folders within folders....
