Best 9F when I was a lad were some monster 0-10-0 chamines, rebuilt by
Peppercorn IIRC on some old frames. For the Tyne Dock to Consett iron ore
run.
Looked very 1890s but with 1930s bits double blast pipes, some complex
valve gear(cant unforget which) but hidden between the frames, auto
stoker or oil fired.There were both sorts.
Wonderful sight and sound going up the hill, average gradient prolly
vertical.
Very quiet and economical on the way down. Sort of thing that should have
been preserved but probably wasn't.
