I find Catalan easier to grasp in some ways than pure Castellano, although
both are beautiful languages. (I speak French, so possibly this explains the
difference.) It gets a bit disconcerting when I watch TV in Sitges and can't
quite work out whether I am hearing one or tother, though. :) Valenciano is,
I think, like Mallorquin, is quite close to Catalan?

Apparently, Catalan has its roots in the Latin spoken by the Roman foot
soldier, and Castellano originates in the language of the roman officer. Me,
I think that the Catalans would (rightly, imo) claim superiority over all
other Spanish generalitats. But I am profoundly biased on this matter.

Bon dia i viva Catalunya, she said, demonstrating linguistic confuzzment!

(And if you ever think of learning Basque/Euskadi, don't. Your head will
explode and your eyeballs melt. It's almost as bad as Finnish.)
